MANY CULTURES RESIDE IN THE PELVIS.
WE’LL CALL THEM PASSIONS.
"Pelvic Portal" is a unique practice method developed by teacher, dancer, and choreographer Orly Portal. It is the result of many years of in-depth research into pelvic movement and its mysteries, inspired by ancient traditions and modern discoveries. Many cultures reside in the pelvis in all shades and shapes. We'll call them passions. The "Way of the Wisdom of the Pelvis" travels worldwide throughout civilizations and disciplines, eventually settling into its secure haven. "Here and now" is at its most vibrant. Gravity and weight. Movement via listening and deep study of physical reality. Skeleton organization and the essential tone all contribute to spontaneous movement and optimum energy. It’s like deep Zen work that changes consciousness and lives.
The Pelvic Portal Teacher Training program includes 160 hours of technique and repertoire practice over a period of one and a half years, beginning in September 2024 and ending in April 2026.

PELVIC PORTAL TEACHER TRAINING IN ROME
1 | 27,28,29 SEPTEMBER 2024 - 3 DAYS, 16 HOURS
Becoming a Portal
Diving into the pelvis and finding the earth, we will transform our bodies into portals. We will explore the power of the Berber pelvis, learn the rhythms of the Gnawa people, practice circles, rotations, and ceremonies of the Sufi order in Morocco, while playing krakebs and sagats, and practicing Moroccan singing. Excerpts from the choreographic work *Swiria* will be used. “Dancers, the women circle, portray a unique interlocking of both tenderness and strength where each muscle is ever-present, masterfully producing melodic phrases, which naturally correlate with the music of Gnawa spiritual rituals as well as the beat of Gil Scott-Heron's spoken-word poetry.
2 | 27, 28 FEBRUARY,1 MARCH 2025 - 3 DAYS 16 HOURS
Foot to Spine
This workshop will focus on movement pathways from the foot to the spine to develop fluidity and connections. We will focus on the collaboration between the periphery and the centre. Excerpts from the choreographic work *Fakarouni* will be used. “In the gap between one R'bina to the next, the song of the heart is released from the diaphragm to the extremities, and as if breaking the fourth wall there is a sense of a trance-formation all around.”
3 | FROM 15TH TO 19TH APRIL 2025 - 5 DAYS, 30 HOURS
Passion
Allowing, embracing, and shaping sexual energy—the creative force that gives form to the spirit—through pelvic techniques combined with hand and footwork from Sufi and contemporary dance. Excerpts from the choreographic work *Rabia, Passion of Rumi* will be used. “Inspired by Rabia al-Adawiya, a Sufi mystic from the 8th century, this work presents the choreography of a Sufi ceremony of love and unity to the sound of Persian music devoted to the poems of 13th-century poet Jalal al-Din Rumi.”
4 | 30, 31 MAY, 1 JUNE 2025 - 3 DAYS 16 HOURS
Musicality
Through Orly’s choreographic creation *The Rite of Spring* by Farid El Atrache, we will work on mastering the musicality of our bodies. We will practice movements and complex techniques set to the rhythms of classical Arabic music. “Alchemy of melody and rhythm through movement. From Maqam, the position defining a melodic pattern, to Taqsim, the most faithful embodiment of Maqam, transcending time signatures to offer greater freedom. From a heartbeat to the absence of a pulse, music and dance are merged to form cohesion. Dance is an integral part of the ritual and a catalyst of an uplifting experience and inner harmony.”
5 | FROM 4TH TO 10TH AUGUST 2025 - 7 DAYS RETREAT 40 HOURS
The Rite of Spring
A blend of technique and repertoire, this intensive retreat brings together all the power and beauty of the Pelvic Portal method. It offers a complete immersion in the dance of Orly Portal at the enchanting “Borgoacquapaola” holistic retreat centre. We will study Orly’s choreographic masterpiece *The Rite of Spring of Farid El Atrache*. “The agony of love that has inspired a great many mesmerizing poetic creations, replaced by Tarab, a sense of ecstasy and elation. A dance ritual throughout the unlimited realms of time and space.”
6 | 31 OCTOBER, 1, 2 NOVEMBER 2025 - 3 DAYS, 16 HOURS
Practicum – Teaching Skills
We will practice teaching methodology and deepen our understanding of the body work. We will experience a full “Pelvic Portal” routine, including all the techniques and stages, to focus on the sequence while emphasizing the parts of lying, sitting, and standing. “The method can be understood mainly through its full experience in the body, so the emphasis on the experience must be the main thing, and the emphasis on the method will be as a complement to the actual experience of the method in the body.”
7 | FROM 2ND APRIL TO 6TH APRIL 2026 - 5 DAYS, 26 HOURS
Practicum - Performance Skills
Holding and sharing energy while performing the dance language of the Portal Method. Practice for the show *The Rite of Spring of Farid El Atrache*, which will be performed in a theatre setting by the graduate teachers at the end of the course. Certification Award Ceremony for the new Pelvic Portal Method teachers. “You become an experiential conduit that transmits knowledge and wisdom through your full presence in body and action.”
